The Godfather of the Cuban Nueva Trova movement performs with his band. Known for eloquent symbolic and questioning lyrics, his songs are anthems across Latin America. Nueva Trova are protest songs that incorporate Cuban traditional and popular music with jazz, rock and classical music. From the late 60s Silvio led the way, and continues to produce the 'soundtrack of revolution'.
In aid of the Music Fund for Cuba charity.
About Nueva Trova
Nueva Trova (best translated as ‘new song’) is a form of protest music incorporating Cuban traditional and popular genres plus influences from jazz, rock, European classical music, led from the late ‘60s in revolutionary Cuba by Silvio, Pablo Milanés, Noel Nicola, Sara Gonzalez, Pedro Luís Ferrer and with roots in the songs of Carlos Puebla and other traditional trova artists. ‘Trova’ comes from ‘trovador’ (troubadour) the early guitar singer-songwriters who performed popular songs about and for the people. Nueva Trova was part of a pan-Latin American song movement, in which the lyrics reflect an attempt to escape commercial banality and address issues such as political and social injustice.
