'Casa Vieja' Dir: Lester Hamlet 2010

A film based on the classic Cuban play 'The Old House' by Abelardo Estorino. The film tells the story of Esteban, who returns home from Spain after a long absence when he learns of the imminent death of his father. Existential conflicts come back to life because very little in the old house has changed since his departure. The family and other characters are affected by the same issues: ideology, love, intransigence, sexuality, selfishness and distance. Directed by the well-established Lester Hamlet, the film was a great success in Cuba in 2011 when it first appeared.

Cine Cuba is a monthly film club, generally held on the last Monday of the month (no film in December) & organised by North London Cuba Solidarity Campaign (NLCSC), showing films from or about Cuba. We aim to show films which provide an insight into the Cuban Revolution and the society, politics, history and culture of Cuba. Where possible we invite guest speakers with a special interest in the film topic We hope that viewers will stay at the end of the film and participate in the relaxed post-film discussion. Entry is free (with a requested donation to cover costs).
