Cuba ready to celebrate 47th Anniversary of the Revolution

Big family get-together planned throughout the island.

Havana 29 Dec: The main squares across the island will become a giant national dancehall as Cuban families flock to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.

The best Cuban orchestras and bands will offer up concerts representing a diverse range of musical genres, while catering services will provide special food and drink offers.

According to information presented during a televised Round Table discussion dedicated to the anniversary celebrations, not one public institution, park, social club, cultural center, theater or stage, throughout all of the country’s municipalities and communities, will be left silent.

Details of the celebrations planned for the anniversary were offered by special guest panelists Abel Acosta, vice-minister of Culture and president of the Cuban Institute of Music; Julian Gonzalez, president of the National Performance Arts Council; Joel Queipo Ruiz, first secretary of the Havana chapter of the Young Communist League; and Miosotis Jimenez, Havana Political Bureau representative, who were joined by moderator Arleem Rodriguez Derivet.

According to the panelists, the big national party will run the night of January 1, followed by a special day for kids starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 2.

Along with concerts by all the leading bands, the theater arts will be amply represented with performances by several renown ballet and dance companies, and lyrical theater and circus artists as well as shows by local community arts groups.

On December 28 and 29 popular dances will be held at workers social clubs across Havana. Cultural institutions and catering services will offer special options throughout the week as part of the October 20 culture project organized by the Young Communist League (UJC).

At 2 p.m. on January 2nd in all the provincial capital cities, the traditional children’s song concert will be held, except for Havana which will hold their concert at 4 p.m. in the Amadeo Roldan Theater.
